The Downtown West Bend Business Improvement District held its monthly boarding meeting Tuesday.

Building lights, marketing and holiday decorations were discussed.

Building lights: The BID Board sent paperwork to the Downtown West Bend Association indicating it would pay for the maintenance of the lights surrounding the buildings on Main Street. The DWBA owns the lights and needed to sign an updated memorandum of understanding. DWBA did sign yet they were awaiting the secretary’s signature. Once the legal work is approved a request will be submitted to Steiner Electric for a purchase order to repair the faulty lights.

-The BID made clear it would pay for the maintenance at this time but maintenance would be an annual agenda item.

Marketing: The BID is still reviewing its marketing options as it explores whether to develop its own webpage. Cost and maintenance of the site were discussed at length as board members debated duplication of sites and how much it would cost to drive traffic to a new webpage. A collaborative effort with established websites was debated and more discussion on a future BID marketing site is to be explored in January.

-Landscaping: During discussion of a number of projects BID Board member Tony Jasen brought up the need to improve landscaping in the downtown. He noted Main Street looked very shabby this year with overgrown weeds.

-Holiday decorations:  The city Department of Public Works will help install holiday decorations in the downtown this year and volunteers will be asked to help. BID Board members talked about spreading the word about the need for volunteers. They said a post-card campaign would be an option. The early date to rally volunteers for an hour or two to hang Christmas lights and decorations would be Nov. 10.
