Motorhome fire on I41 near the Village of Richfield

June 2, 2017 – Richfield, WI – On Thursday, June 1, 2017 at approximately 11:35 p.m., the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a motorhome on fire on I41 southbound, near Pleasant Hill Road in the Village of Richfield.

A motorist came upon the motorhome, which was emitting heavy smoke, and stopped between the center and right lanes of I41. Upon arrival of deputies, the motorhome became engulfed in flames and the driver had left the scene.

The Richfield Fire Department was dispatched to the scene. Due to the position and location of the motorhome, south of where I41 and Highway 45 merge, both highways had to be closed at Pioneer Road, southbound traffic, for approximately two hours.

The motorhome, which had burned significantly, was extinguished by the fire department. The Washington County Highway Department was called to remove melted metal fragments from the roadway.

The incident remains under investigation into the owner of the motorhome.

The investigation revealed the motorhome became disabled while it was being driven, and subsequently started on fire. The driver, a 41-year-old man from Milwaukee, was located a short time later, away from the scene, and will be cited for traffic related offenses.
