Nov. 26, 2016 – Mayville, WI – Committee reviews information regarding modern classrooms and infrastructure needs
The independent facility study committee tasked with making a recommendation to the School District of Mayville in the month of October. This month was spent primarily on gathering information and community feedback on how to modernize the facilities used by students in the School district.
The committee heard a detailed presentation from Matt Wolfert, president of Bray Architects, Wisconsin’s recognized leader in architecture firms for K-12 education.  The focus of the presentation was on what modern learning environments look like and the way the facilities are molded to new technology and teaching methods. The presentation allowed committee members the opportunity to take a virtual tour of recent projects from other successful projects throughout the state.
Features highlighted throughout the project ranged from secure entrances, to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) facilities, to modernized libraries, and updated health and fitness facilities. Examples were given for collaborative learning environments in various grade settings including elementary, middle school and high school. A particular focus was on furniture needs and integration with technology.  Providing flexible and comfortable spaces enable students to use teamwork to complete assigned projects together.
The committee further received a detailed report as to the current infrastructure needs at the school. According to the report, several systems at the school are at the end of their useful life or past their useful life.
The infrastructure subcommittee has been hard at work reviewing this information and reported that they have created a spreadsheet that is being used to classify the various needs relative to their costs and their urgency.
Cost estimates and prioritization are going to be released in the near future.
The committee also recently learned that a construction manager, J.H. Findorff & Sons, Inc. has been retained. At this point, Findorff will be available to assist the committee in obtaining competitive cost estimates as to various options for renovation, infrastructure needs, or construction. They will be looking at the recommendations of the various subcommittees for cost analysis during the month of November.
The individual subcommittees are well along the process of identifying needs, and their progress will be released shortly. The facility study committee is comprised of volunteers representing diverse interests in the community.
