A. Marian Barrow, 75, Town of Cedarburg

A. Marian Barrow (nee Brackin), age 75 of the Town of Cedarburg, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa. She was born December 25, 1940 in Tampa, FL to Edgar and Bertie (nee Wyles) Brackin and married David W. Barrow III on November 30, 1968 in Tampa.

Marian’s love of family and home, and her passion for southern cooking, music, and animals – especially dogs – was obvious to all who knew her. Marian, the daughter of a school secretary and a shipyard painter became very active in religious music at a young age, singing at weddings, holiday concerts, and other services within her community. This started her on a path to attend Florida State University as a music major.

She served as a music director for three Baptist churches in Florida while keeping her home and raising her family. She also became active in the Pinellas Park Jaycees, an activity she shared with her husband, David.

After moving to Wisconsin in 1978, Marian became the Director of Youth Music at Crossroads Presbyterian Church and actively volunteered in other areas of the church, the kitchen in particular. Marian was a long time member of the Ozaukee Chorus where she served as President for four years. Marian learned to cook by her mom’s side and fed her family exceptionally well, but she never stopped looking for the perfect pizza.

Marian is survived by her husband of 47 years, David, 2 children: Suzanne (Richard Benjamin) Derrick of Plainfield, IL and Dave of Cedarburg, 2 grandchildren; Rebecca “Becca” Wyles Barrow and Richard Aleksandr “Alex” Derrick; and, her very dear friend Julie (Scott) Schmidt of West Bend and their children Aidan and Owen. She is further survived by her brother Ed Brackin of Tampa, FL, her Aunt Frances Widener of Valrico, FL, her brother-in-law Christopher T. (Susan) Barrow of Boston, MA, her sister-in-law Barbara Barrow of Fox Point, and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Bertie Brackin, her in-laws David Jr. and Marion Barrow and her brother-in-law Robert R. Barrow.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home in Jackson. The family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation are appreciated.
