May 18, 2020 – West Bend, WI – A big day ahead this week for Gordon Moen who will be turning 98 years old on Tuesday, May 19.
Moen was born in 1922. He served in World War II and fought in North Africa. Moen took part in the Stars & Stripes Honor Flight in May 2010.
On August 7, 1949, Moen married Eleanor at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in La Crosse. She worked at home raising their children and was a crossing guard in West Bend for 27 years. Moen’s wife passed in 2017 at the age of 95.
Moen taught in the West Bend School District for 36.5 years. He retired in 1984. Below are some submitted photos of Moen from The Bend yearbook and a letter he wrote to one of his former students, Kathy Uebele.
Moen is currently a resident in a nursing home in the Cedar Grove area. Please help make his birthday special by tapping out a birthday wish or a short thought about a memory from school.
Pictures of Gordon Moen below are from the yearbook, The Bend. This was before there was a WB East and a WB West.
It looks like he signed my yearbook in 1963 when I was a Freshman and had him for a teacher. I had forgotten that! It also looks like I underlined the names of the teachers I had that year in my yearbook. I am sending the entire page of the 1963 faculty with his picture, along with a cropped version that shows mostly him on the page. He is pictured next to Ralph Mundinger, who passed away last year. I had him for Office Practice in 1965-66.
In the scan from 1964, Gordon’s Bio lists where he went to college.
