Doctor on trial in overdose death of Matthew Roberts

May 17, 2018 – West Bend, WI – A doctor is on trial in Mobile, Alabama accused in the 2016 death of singer Matthew Roberts.

 

The 38-year-old former band member with Three Doors Down was found dead at the Hampton Inn in West Bend.

 

Following a federal investigation Dr. Richard Snellgrove was indicted in November 2016 for Illegal Drug Distribution in relation to the death of Roberts.

 

Snellgrove is accused of unlawful distribution of drugs and health care fraud in a case tied to the death of Matthew Roberts.

 

Snellgrove is currently on trial. If convicted he faces up to 240 years in prison.

It was August 20, 2016 when West Bend Police investigated the death of Matthew Roberts, 38, at the Hampton Inn, 1975 S. 18th Avenue. 

Matthew Roberts was visiting from Spanish Fort, Alabama. He was a former member of the band Three Doors Down. He was in West Bend to play with a local band at a charity function.

The cause of death was determined to be a prescription drug related overdose. Through investigation we learned the source of the drugs was from Alabama.

West Bend Police worked in cooperation with authorities from the Mobile Alabama Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Alabama.

Through investigation we learned the prescription drugs that caused Mr. Robert’s death had been obtained from a physician in Fairhope, Alabama.

On Wednesday, Nov. 16 2016, Dr. Richard Snellgrove, of Fairhope Alabama was indicted for Illegal Drug Distribution in relation to the death of Mr. Roberts. The US Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Alabama put out the below press release on Nov. 22, 2016.
