Dodge County Sheriff squad hit by OWI driver while stopping to assist semi driver | By Dodge Co. Sheriff Dale Schmidt

Jan. 26, 2019 – Dodge County, WI – On Saturday, Jan. 26 at 1:47 a.m. a Dodge County Deputy was assisting a disabled semi tractor trailer which was blocking the left turn lane on North Spring Street at County Hwy. B, Beaver Dam, Dodge County.

Initial Investigation showed a 2018 Chevy Trax, which was being operated by Gloria Avila, 46, of Beaver Dam was northbound on Spring St. and struck from behind a fully marked Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Squad which was occupied by the Deputy.

Avila sustained minor injuries; she was treated on the scene by Beaver Dam Paramedics. The Deputy was uninjured in the crash. The Chevy Trax sustained moderate front end damage and was towed from the scene. The Dodge County squad sustained moderate damage to the rear hatch/bumper and was driven from the scene.

Through investigation on the scene, Avila was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense and Inattentive Driving. Avila was transported to the Dodge County Detention Facility on a 12-hour hold for the OWI.

The crash is currently being investigated by the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Assisting at the scene were Beaver Dam Fire/Paramedics, Beaver Dam Police Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
