Fatal accident following head-on collision in Town of Hartford

May 19, 2017 – Town of Hartford, WI – On Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 5:37 p.m. the Washington County Sheriff’s responded to State Highway 83 approximately 0.2mi south of Lee Rd in the Town of Hartford reference a two-vehicle crash with injury.

A Hartford Police Officer was in the area and was the first squad on scene and advised Washington County Dispatch that one patients was still trapped in his vehicle and had suffered serious injuries.

Hartford Fire and Rescue Department responded for medical triage of both vehicle operators.

Hartford Rescue requested Flight for Life for the injuries of the first operator.

That operator was transported to Aurora Medical Center-Hartford where he succumb to his injuries.

The second operator had only minor injuries and was transported via ambulance to a local hospital.

The deceased operator (sole occupant) was northbound on State Highway 83 operating a green Ford Focus station wagon. While negotiating a curve in the roadway south of Lee Road, the northbound vehicle crossed the center line into the southbound lane of travel and struck the southbound vehicle in a head-on manner resulting in the northbound operator’s death.

The southbound operator (sole occupant) was operating a silver Toyota Tacoma truck and suffered minor injury and was treated and released from Aurora Medical Center in Summit.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is assisting with the investigation. Weather and road conditions were not a factor in the crash. State Highway was closed to traffic for approximately 6 hours.

The deceased operator (northbound) is an 18-year-old male from Hubertus, Wisconsin. The injured operator (southbound) is an 18-year-old male from Erin, Wisconsin.

This is Washington County’s first traffic fatality in 2017.

No further information is being released at this time and the crash remains under investigation.
