David M. Wolf, 73, passed away on March 11, 2016 at his home in West Bend after a nearly year-long battle with cancer. He was born on July 18, 1942 in West Bend, WI to Cyril and Margaret Mary (nee Mueller) Wolf.
Dave was a life-long resident of West Bend and attended West Bend Schools and graduated from Marquette University in June of 1965. After graduation, he entered military service and was stationed at Fort Ord, California, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant.
On July 22, 1967 he married Mary (nee Johann) and together they raised two daughters, Laura and Amy, on Green Tree Road in West Bend.
Upon discharge from the military, he joined Amity Leather Products Co., and was appointed Vice-President in 1977.
In March of 1980, he and Mary bought Dick’s Pizza which they ran for 23 years. In 1988, they built the AmericInn Motel of West Bend. Dave was also a partner in the AmericInn of Belgium and Hartford as well as the Social Security Building in West Bend.
Dave was active in many community and civic groups, including Treasurer of the WB Jaycees, Charter Board Member of the Kettle Moraine YMCA, President of the West Bend Convention and Visitors Bureau, Drive Chairman and President of United Way of Washington County, Board Member of the West Bend American Red Cross, West Bend Columns Organization, and West Bend Chamber of Commerce, three time big brother with the Big Brothers/Sisters of Washington County, and most recently Treasurer of the West Bend Gridiron Club.
Dave and Mary were also responsible for bringing the West Bend Christmas Parade back to the community and Dave served as Sponsor and Chairman for several years. Additionally he had an ongoing role in both the West Bend 4th of July Parade and the West Bend Memorial Day Parade.
His awards included West Bend’s Outstanding Young Man, Paul Harris Fellow Award thru the West Bend Noon Rotary Club, and Dave was twice named Rotarian of the Year.
Dave was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Koehn, his parents Cy and Margaret Mary Wolf, his father and mother in-law Werner Johann and Margaret (Sylvester) Naumann, his sisters-in-law Sandy Johann-Berkel and Katie Mezera, his brother-in-law Gordy Henke, and his niece Jenny Johann-Berkel.
Dave is survived by his wife Mary, his daughter Amy (Lance) White, his grandchildren Olivia, Margaret Mary, Anna and DJ Koehn and Teagan Cole, and Tripp, Quinn, Reed and Chase White, his siblings Sara Rehring of Brookfield, Mary Henke of Milwaukee, Mike Wolf of Eugene, OR, and Jane (Bob) Steger of Kaukauna,, his sisters and brothers-in-law Barbara (Roger) Landvatter, Ken (Chris) Berkel, Larry Mezera, Mike Johann, and Sherry (Dick) Prost, his son-in-law Andy (Jenn) Koehn, his nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and many dear family friends.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 16 at the Schmidt Funeral Home, 629 Cedar St, West Bend at 7 p.m. A visitation at the funeral home will precede the service from 4 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.
