Grothman on funding national transportation needs

One of the things former Congressman Tom Petri called for was a long-term way to fund the nation’s transportation projects. His successor Congressman Glenn Grothman said the latest transportation bill will fund those needs for the next five years.
Grothman said the current gas tax is a fair way to fund transportation needs. He said the gas tax is “the more you ride the more you pay” and heavier vehicles like trucks are paying more because they are doing more damage to the roads.

“The gas tax seems to be fairer than alternative taxes,” Grothman said. “But that doesn’t mean we might not have to reexamine the issue in the future.”

He said if cars become more fuel efficient we may have to look at something five years from now.
