 roadconstruction1_equipment-1

The Hwy. 83 Reconstruction Project started Monday, April 4.  The project includes the complete reconstruction of Hwy. 83 (Branch St. and portions of S. Main St. & Grand Ave.) from Hwy. 60 (Sumner St.) to just south of E. Monroe Ave.  The project is being completed in phases.

Currently the road is closed to through traffic from the intersection of S. Main St. & Branch St. to about 300 feet north of Jefferson Ave.  Through traffic will be detoured for the duration of the project.

The detour route (from the south) takes traffic east on E. Monroe Ave. to Hwy. K, then north on Hwy. K to Hwy. 60 (E. Sumner St.), then west on Hwy. 60 back to Hwy. 83.  Local traffic may still use the roadway to access residences and businesses in the construction area.

For the week of May 16, the contractor will be working on storm sewer between South St. and E. Loos St.  They will be starting near South St. and working their way to the south.  There is also a small section of water main work at the intersection of E. Loos St. that the contractor will be replacing.  There will be two water shut offs associated with this work.  Any properties affected by the water shut offs will be notified 24 hours in advance of the shut off.

The underground utility work from E. Washington Ave. to just north of Jefferson Ave. has been completed.  The general contractor is planning to begin removals of existing pavement, curbs, and sidewalk during the week of May 23rd in this area.

Starting the week of May 30, the contractor will begin work at the intersection of E. Monroe Ave.  There is a lot of work at this intersection and it will be completed in phases in order to keep the intersection open to traffic as much as possible.  There will be some temporary asphalt installed in order to maintain traffic through the intersection.

Traffic control signage continues to be monitored and adjusted as needed.  Some businesses have contacted the DOT and started having signs installed directing customers to their locations.

Wheelock Avenue Construction

This project will begin on Monday, May 16.  Wheelock Ave. is being reconstructed from E. Monroe Ave. to E. Lincoln Ave.  The project includes, sanitary sewer repairs and lining, water main replacement, some new storm sewer, curb & gutter repairs, sidewalk repairs, and new asphalt pavement.  The City’s contractor will begin working on Monday, May 16th with the water main replacement.  They will start working at the intersection of E. Lincoln Ave. and work towards the south.  There will be some water shut offs involved with this work.  Any affected properties will be notified of water shut offs 24 hours in advance.

WE Energies has been working on this street for the last 2 weeks.  They are replacing the gas main on this street.

If you have any questions or concerns about the projects, please let me know.
