Installation begins for Slinger’s Born Learning Trail | By Kristin Brandner

July 23, 2018 – Slinger, WI – A multi-sector partnership led by Legendary Whitetails is launching with the installation of the first Born Learning Trail in Slinger.

The trail will follow a path marked with colorful signs adjacent to Brendan’s Playground and Rueckl Field in Slinger. This will be the fourth Born Learning Trail in Washington County.

Born Learning research shows that parents and caregivers often undervalue their role. Many don’t know how to prepare young children for school, or feel they don’t have time to do what’s needed.

It’s crucial for parents and caregivers to make early learning a priority. By age five, 90 percent of a child’s brain development has already taken place, and this early development sets the stage for the rest of a child’s life.

The Born Learning Trail is sponsored and will be installed by employees of Legendary Whitetails in partnership with the Village of Slinger.  Additional sponsors helping to make this trail possible by providing in-kind materials and support are J.H. Hassinger and Heartland Construction.

“Legendary Whitetails moved to Slinger almost 10 year ago.  The engaging environment built by village and the other community partners is a hallmark of welcoming and keeping businesses in Wisconsin,” said Gregg Huffman, President of Legendary Whitetails.

“Thanks to United Way of Washington County for being the inspiration of this modest trail.  Equal thanks to JH Hassinger Construction and Heartland Construction for stepping up in these busy days of summer to donate materials and services.  On behalf of Legendary Whitetails, I am very proud of our small part in the Born Learning Trail initiative and the Slinger community.”

“The Born Learning Trail is an investment in our future.  We are extremely appreciative of Legendary Whitetails leadership to bring the Born Learning Trail and School Readiness initiative to Slinger,” said Kristin Brandner, Executive Director of United Way of Washington County. “This project is a fantastic example of how impact is created when local people and partners work together to build a stronger community. It demonstrates their commitment to the people of this community. They are a great example of what it looks like to give back.”

The installation is currently underway with a grand opening and community ribbon cutting to be held later in August.
