Jackson Police Department recognized for policy development

Feb. 23, 2017 – Jackson, WI – The Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group has recertified the Jackson Police Department’s compliance with 39 core standards of law enforcement operations.

The department was originally certified in 2014 when it served as a pilot site for the Core Standards Verification program, which is available for police departments serving populations of fewer than 10,000 and sheriff’s departments serving county populations of 30,000 or less.

To earn certification, the department submitted the relevant policies and proofs of compliance to WILEAG assessors.

In 2010, Jackson became the first Washington County agency, and the smallest in Wisconsin, to earn full WILEAG accreditation, covering 93 standards.

According to Chief Jed Dolnick, the CSV program is more manageable for smaller agencies like Jackson. The standards focus on key federal and state statutory mandates; requirements arising from case law; and issues related to high risk law enforcement operations.
