Joseph Fulop is running for Hartford District 1 Alderman | By Samantha Sali

Feb. 16, 2019 – Hartford, WI – Hartford District 1 Alderman, Joseph Fulop, is one of three candidates running for the seat on the Common Council.

Fulop, who was appointed District 1 Alderman after Randy Meyer quit, has been serving the city for almost one year.

“I told my wife I wanted to give back to the community and thought this would be a good segue, a good first step,” said Fulop. “I’ve been in the town a long time, I like to see what it does and how it functions.”

Fulop was born in Hartford and is an alum of Milwaukee School of Engineering and Marquette University. He is currently the Director of Testing and Prototype at Milwaukee Tool. “I’ve worked for Milwaukee Tool for over 30 years,” said Fulop. “Before my current position, I was in facility and internal management.”

Fulop’s wife and four sons attend St. Kilian Parish, where Fulop actively volunteers and participates on the stewardship committee. He’s also on the advisory board for Waukesha County Technical College.

Fulop believes what sets him apart from the other candidates is his educational background and work experience. “My engineering degree gives me the ability to look at this from a logical standpoint, along with my business degree and management experience akin to how the city manages its operation,” Fulop said. “I’ve got a fair amount of experience in running WCTC and what I do at work correlates to the many things I see in the Council, like zoning and spending money. I’m another added insight to that decision-making process and I’m very situational in my own decision-making.”

When asked what he believed was the most significant issue facing the city, Fulop thinks Hartford’s revitalization of downtown continues to be a problem. “Our aging infrastructure is a challenge, but when you look at places like the Jack Russell Memorial Library, Schauer Center, the Bookend project, or the new hotel downtown, you can see the importance of enhancing Hartford to grow the community to be likeable and fruitful. Doing nothing is not a good approach.”

Incumbent Todd Bultman and Erin Wilk are also running. The primary election is Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019.

The spring election is April 2, 2019.
