Oct. 29, 2016 – Jackson, WI – As she finishes strong coming in 13th in the girls varsity race of 2016 WIAA Cross Country Sectional meet with a time of 20:58 on Saturday Oct. 22, Kettle Moraine Lutheran junior Abby Miller is now the only qualified state runner from KML.
Miller has been collecting a great win of 15 medals throughout this season.

Regardless of all these big accomplishment, cross country has not always been a part of Miller’s life. Miller first started her cross-country journey in her sophomore year as she transfer to KML from Living Word Lutheran High School, Jackson.

Although this is only her second year running, for KML, Miller has been nearly unstoppable. With her great sprinting skills, Miller has been constantly breaking her personal and season record from last year and now.

“My leadership is one of my greatest traits,” she said. “I try to help my teammates overcome their nerves before the run by encouraging them, and making sure they are enjoying the race.”

As KML cross country wraps up its regular season, Miller will be only runner from KML running at the 2016 WIAA State Cross Country Meet at the Ridges Golf Course, Rapids on Saturday Oct. 29 at 2:25 p.m.

“I am little anxious because I am the only one. My goal is to overcome my nerve and focus on running,” she said.

Head coach Tim Kuehl said, “Abby is a great runner. She knows how to challenge herself and I am very proud of how she pushed herself throughout this season and battled. She sure is a dedicated runner.”

Kettle Moraine’s running star also won in many other races outside of KML. Last summer, Miller took first of her age group in both boys and girls at the Watermelon Run 10K run.

Running is not the only thing Miller does well, she has also achieved great things in the classroom. She was named to the KML honor roll for 2015-16 with a solid 3.7 GPA, and is in KML’s forensics. Last year, she and her teammates earned second in State in group interpretation.

“It’s hard to manage my time with school work especially during the season,” she said. “I had to find a way to be more efficient with my time. In school I focus on my school work and make sure that I use my study hall wisely to get as much as homework done so that I could still socialize with my friends too.”

Her drive and dedication to schoolwork and running lead Miller for success in high school and beyond.
