Local lawmakers in Washington County are reacting to the news of the death of state Senator Rich Gudex (R-Fond du Lac).
“I’m shocked. I really, really liked the man,” said Assembly Rep. Bob Gannon (R-Slinger). “He was moving out of politics and had a career lined up to benefit his family with a better job.”
Assembly Rep. Jesse Kremer (R-Kewaskum) expressed similar thoughts. “I was both shocked and saddened to hear about Senator Rick Gudex’s passing this morning,” said Kremer. “Sen. Gudex served his state and community with dignity and pride. The loved ones he leaves behind will be in my thoughts and heartfelt prayers.”
State Senator Duey Stroebel (R-Cedarburg) said, “My thoughts and prayers are with Senator Gudex’s wife Kim and two kids. Rick has spent his life representing his local area. I respect Rick for his commitment to serve his community as a city councilman, mayor, and state senator. I will miss serving with Senator Gudex.”
Gudex was elected to the State Senate in 2013. Prior to that he served as Mayor of Mayville 1998-2000 and he was on the Fond du Lac City Council 2009-2012.
Gannon classified Gudex as “a conservative republican from the Fond du Lac area who stepped out of a career in manufacturing in the private sector and went to Madison for one term.”
Gudex was 48 years old.
Fond du Lac County Sheriff Mylan Fink posted a note about the death investigation.
