Man cited for 5th OWI and woman fibs on stolen car

Washington County Sheriff

Unfounded Stolen Vehicle Complaint:

On Friday, August 26 around 6:30 pm the Washington County Sheriff’s met with a 28-year-old Town of West Bend woman who wanted to report her car as stolen. During the follow-up investigation the deputy was able to determine that the woman was arrested by a local municipal police department earlier in the afternoon for a domestic abuse type incident.  It was also determined, earlier that morning, at about 4 a.m., the car she was reporting as stolen was involved in a hit-and-run accident. The vehicle went into the ditch in the area of Paradise Dr. and Peters Dr. in the Town of West Bend and struck a utility box.  The air bags were deployed and the car was left at the scene. A note was left on the car indicating the driver would be back later to pick it up.  The deputy that investigated the accident attempted contact with the registered owner that morning with no success.

The deputy assigned to investigate the stolen vehicle complaint obtained a written statement from the female.  The deputy also noticed that the handwriting on the written statement matched perfectly with the handwriting on the note left on the vehicle at the accident scene. The woman finally acknowledged she lied about the stolen vehicle because she did not want to get into trouble for crashing the car.

She was arrested for obstructing.

Fifth Offense OWI

The Washington County Sheriff’s investigated a suspicious vehicle complaint that resulted in the arrest of a 5th offense drunk driver.  The incident occurred on 8/29/16 at 11 a.m. when the suspect, identified as a 62-year-old Town of Farmington man, stopped at a residence in the 9200 block of Windy Acres Dr. and asked who the neighbors were.  The caller indicated the driver appeared intoxicated.   The suspect was located parked at the Boltonville Pond and arrested for OWI.  A preliminary breath test indicated the driver was nearly 4 times the legal limit. He remains in custody at the Sheriff’s Office.

Motor Vehicle Accidents over the weekend:

The Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle accident involving minor injuries on 8/28/16 at 12:52 p.m. in the area of Pleasant Hill Rd. and Scenic Rd in the Village of Richfield. The investigation revealed the driver, a 24-year-old Hubertus woman, was east bound on Pleasant Hill Rd. when she over corrected from going off road right and crashed into an embankment that resulted in her vehicle coming to rest in a deep water-filled ditch.  The driver was transported to Community Memorial Hospital for minor facial lacerations.  She will be receiving a citation for inattentive driving that caused the accident.

Motorcycle spill turns serious

A 21-year-old Howards Grove man was operating his motorcycle southbound on I41 following behind his girlfriend in the area of the construction zone near Pioneer Rd. on 8/29/16 at 3:07pm.  As the drivers approached backed up traffic, the man crashed into the back of his girlfriend’s vehicle.  The motorcycle operator was walking and talking after the crash but was eventually transported to CMH for observation based upon EMS recommendations.   During a CT scan medical professionals found a brain bleed and the driver was immediately transported down to Froedtert Regional Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery.  The driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.  Emergency medical professionals are highly trained to evaluate manner and mechanism of injury rather than simply look at the vehicle damage.  Based upon this investigation, the driver made a good decision to listen to medical professionals rather than brush off the accident as a minor “spill”.

Mayville woman rolls car and is cited for OWI

On 8/27/16 at 4:08 am the Washington County Sheriff responded to the 5900 block of Hwy 175 for a citizen report of a subject screaming “Mom.”  The responding deputies located an accident scene and identified the lone occupant of the vehicle as a 28-year-old Mayville woman.  The woman rolled her vehicle over when she left the roadway.  She was arrested for OWI first offense and had a BAC of .16.
