Obit: Alvin Reindl, 81, West Bend

Alvin A. Reindl of West Bend died on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the Cedar Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 81 years, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born on December 6, 1934 in St. Kilian to the late Kilian and Amelia (nee Richart) Reindl.

On September 1, 1962, he was united in marriage to Florence Kraus at the former Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nenno. Soon after their marriage, the couple settled in West Bend.

For more than 20 years, he worked at the Gehl Company as a forklift operator. He then became employed at the former M&I Bank in the maintenance department, retiring in December, 2000. After retirement, he became a crossing guard for the City of West Bend, helping children from Barton Elementary School and St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School.

He was a long-time member of Holy Angels Catholic Parish, serving as an usher for more than 30 years. He also volunteered in many areas with the parish.

Al was an avid sports fan, both as a spectator and a participant. He played many games with his children and later grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially sheepshead. Other favorite past-times included gardening, traveling, crossword puzzles, word search and he was a handyman who could fix anything he set his mind to.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Florence; 6 children: Brian of West Bend, Lisa of West Bend, Kevin (Kate) of Oak Creek, Kurt (Jenny) of Germantown, Thomas of Two Rivers and James (Jill) of Sioux Falls, SD; 13 grandchildren Noah, Andrew, Abigail and Natalie, Cole, Mitchell and Logan, Alexandria and Braydon, Keaton, Trey, Chance and Kennedy; 1 sister and 3 brothers: Harold of Milwaukee, Lee (Cathy) of Lomira, Carol (Pat) Crowley of Fond du Lac and Richard (Rose) of Kewaskum; 3 sisters-in-law: Mona Kraus of West Bend, Alice (Harold) Baier of St. Lawrence and Sue Kraus of Greendale; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents-in-law Michael and Amelia Kraus, and 1 sister-in-law Lavern Kraus.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 17 at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Repenshek presiding. Burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends during a period of visitation at the church on Monday from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to the Holy Angels School Trust Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Al’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the nurses and staff of the Cedar Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center for their care, compassion and concern. It was greatly appreciated.
