Obit: Bernice Schoofs, 93, long-time resident of Kewaskum

Nov. 11, 2016 – Kewaskum, WI – Bernice Schoofs (nee Kowanda), age 93, long-time resident of Kewaskum, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Cedar Lake Health Care Center in the town of West Bend.

She was born on November 1, 1923 to the late Joseph and Irma (nee Rietz) Kowanda in the town of Trenton. On June 17, 1950 she was united in marriage to Francis “Pat” Schoofs at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Newburg. Bernice worked at Regal Ware for 22 years. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Kewaskum as well as the Christian Women Society. She was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Society. Bernice enjoyed baking, canning and sewing. She loved being a mom, grandma, and great-grandma. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Those Bernice leaves behind to cherish her memory include her four children, Joan (William) Thompson of West Bend, Gerald (Nancy) Schoofs of Waupaca, Marjorie (Michael) Buncak of LaCrosse and David (Trisha) Schoofs of West Bend; nine grandchildren, Nicole (Anthony) Walker, Dr. Christopher (Heather) Thompson, James (Kimberly) Thompson, Matthew (Amanda) Schoofs, Katherine Schoofs, Michelle (Stephen) Todd, Micah (Danyel) Buncak, Thomas (Courtney) Schoofs and Emily (Charles) Fink; Twelve great-grandchildren, Mary, Austin, Abigail, Hunter, Sawyer, Logan, Kyan, Raegan, Kennedy, Sophia, Stephen, and Patrick; a beloved sister, Mary (Robert) Rosenthal; three brothers-in-law, Ralph (Patsy) Schoofs, Allen (Paula) Schoofs, and Francis Volm; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Francis Schoofs; two brothers, James and Thomas Kowanda.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 331 Main Street, Kewaskum, Wisconsin 53040. Father Edwin Kornath will officiate.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Church Monday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of Mass.
