Obit: Deacon Bernard Joseph Wendt, 82

Deacon Bernard “Bernie” Joseph Wendt, 82, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2015.  He was born on November 20, 1933 in Milwaukee to Oliver and Irene (nee Meline) Wendt and graduated from Medford High School Class of 1952.  He married Reneé Weniger on June 9, 1956 at St. Catherine Church in Milwaukee.  Bernie served in the US Army and then worked for the WI Telephone Company for 34 years.  He became an ordained deacon in 1994 and served at St. Peter Parish in Slinger retiring in 2007.

He enjoyed golf, bowling, camping, traveling and watching Packer games.  Bernie was a past member of School Boards for both St. Rita in Racine and St. Peter Parish in Slinger.

He is survived by his loving wife, Renee; children: Patrick (Sue), Mike (Becky), Christine (the late Gregg) Griswold, and Cindy (Ed) Mangold; grandchildren: Steve, Ben, Sara, Melissa, Julie, Joe, Kaelan, Sean, Samantha, and Gavin; great-granddaughter McKenna; sisters: Bernadine (Ed) Szopinski and Katherine (Bill) DeBus; brothers-in-law: Tom (Bonnie) Weniger and Joe (Mary) Weniger.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Bernie is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Raymond and Oliver (Carol) Wendt.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 28, 2015 at 4:00 PM at St. Peter Parish (200 E Washington St, Slinger) with Fr. Richard Stoffel presiding.  The Visitation will be held at the church on Monday, December 28th from 1:00 PM until 3:45 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Peter Building Fund (208 E Washington St, Slinger, WI  53086) or Slinger Food Pantry (321 E Washington St., Slinger, WI  53086) would be appreciated.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at Serenity Villa and the Horizon Hospice nurses for all of their tender and loving care.
