Obit: Evelyn E. Uelmen, 89

Evelyn E. “Evie” Uelmen, nee Stern of West Bend, formerly of St. Michael’s, entered eternal life surrounded by family on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Ivy Manor at the age of 89 years. She was born on May 26, 1926 in Kewaskum to the late Fred and Mathilda (nee Marquardt) Stern.

On June 17, 1944, she was united in marriage to Elroy A. “Sammy” Uelmen at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in St. Michael’s. Sammy predeceased February 6, 2000.

Throughout her life, she worked at many places, including Amity Leather Products, Regal Ware and the Samaritan Health Center as a dietician.

She enjoyed living life to its fullest. She spent many hours playing sheepshead with family and friends, listening and dancing to polka music, spending time with her friends and neighbors, and cherished the time she spent with her family.

For the past year and a half, Evie has resided at Ivy Manor in West Bend where she made new friends and created new memories.

For more than 45 years, she was an active member of St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Survivors include 6 children Elaine (Ray) Maurer of Campbellsport, Lloyd “Whitey” (Linda) of West Bend, Carol Sabish of Kewaskum, Ken (fiancé Jean Giese) of Horicon, Jane (Dave) Tolonen of Allenton and Cheryl (Bob) Olson of West Bend; 17 grandchildren: Michelle (Patrick) Ruplinger, Brenda (Darin) Campagna, Raymond Maurer, Jr., Penny Maurer, Sheri (Andy) Kasten, David (Jann) Uelmen, Lisa (Randy) Geib, Tammy (Henri) Dickman, Kim (Sam) Durand, Jennifer (special friend Marcello) Uelmen, Nicholas (Fostina) Uelmen, Ryan Uelmen, Eric Tolonen, Craig Tolonen, Kayla Goemer, Travis (special friend Kelsey) Olson and Justin (Abby) Olson; 31 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 1 sister Dolores Petry of Menomonee Falls; 1 brother Sylvester (Ellie) Stern of West Bend; 1 sister-in-law Shirley Stern of St. Michael’s; other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was precedeased by 1 grandson Jeffrey Sabish and 1 brother Harold “Schnooky” Stern.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 26 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be Monday at 12 noon in St. Michael’s Cemetery, St. Michael’s. The family will greet relatives and friends during a period of visitation at the church on Saturday from 9 until 10:45 a.m.

The family has requested memorials to the West Bend Athletic Association, St. Mary’s Parish or to Ivy Manor.

Evie’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Ivy Manor, Serenity Hospice and Dr. Gary Preisler and his staff. Their care, compassion and friendship are greatly appreciated. Also, a special thanks to Fr. Enrique Hernandez and Dan Schroeder for their spiritual and prayerful guidance during this difficult time.
