Obit: George E. Fassbinder, 88, West Bend

3735745_fbsGeorge E. Fassbinder of West Bend died on Friday, May 27, 2016 at the Cedar Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 88 years. He was born September 25, 1927 in West Bend to the late Theodore and Eleanor (nee King) Fassbinder.

On September 1, 1952, he was united in marriage to Corliss Dekker at Holy Angels Catholic Church.

After high school, he served with the United States Navy from 1945 until his discharge in 1948. He returned to West Bend and learned the meat-cutting trade and was employed as a meat-cutter for 30 years. He first worked at National Food Store and later at Sentry Foods, retiring in 1989.

In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf and cards. For many years, he volunteered at the Full Shelf Food Pantry in West Bend. In honor of his service in the U. S. Navy during World War II, George went to Washington D.C. with the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight in September of 2015.

He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Loyal Order Of Moose Saukville Lodge #1043, Lt. Ray Dickop Post #36 American Legion, Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America, AFL-CIO Local 73, and was a charter member of Hon-E-Kor Country Club.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Corliss; 2 sons Jeffrey (Cherie) of Longmont, CO and John (Maureen) of Hudson, WI; 4 grandchildren: Katie (Ben) Scarbrough, Brian (Crystal), Molly and Jenny; 3 great-grandchildren: Ella Scarbrough and Mary Grace and Luke Fassbinder; 1 sister Jane Parvin of West Bend; 2 sister-in-laws Luella Dekker of West Bend and Jean Fassbinder of West Bend; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers Kenneth and Robert, 2 brothers-in-law Wayne Parvin, Earl Dekker and 1 sister-in-law Viola (Robert) Dabinger, 3 nephews Kenneth Parvin, Michael Parvin and Jim Dabringer.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Cedar Theater at 11 a.m. The family will greet relatives and friends at the theater on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorials to the Holy Angels School Trust Fund appreciated.
