Janice J. “Jan” Schanen, of Grafton, died peacefully on May 11, 2016 at the age of 60 surrounded by her family. Jan was born in Port Washington, WI on May 6, 1956 the daughter of Irene (Nee Sudbrink) and the late Robert J. Jordan. On April 29, 1978 Jan was united in marriage to David Schanen at Grace Lutheran Church in Grafton.
Our Mom courageously battled cancer until the end. Truly never giving up hope that she would stay one step ahead of it. Becoming Amma made her beam with happiness. She loved her grandbabies so much; she referred to herself as the “luckiest woman” because of them. For all who have visited her home, have seen those years of gardening, which she enjoyed, created a magical space where she loved to sit and be mindful.

Our Mom and Dad spent many fun years snowmobiling, racing and cruising in their Chevelle. She loved her vacation trailer and enjoyed sitting on her front porch, drinking coffee, watching the morning go by. She enjoyed the company of all her friends and family and made new friends where ever she would go. She was always awestruck at the sight of the full moon. She would pull over the car or drive to the Lake Michigan bluff to catch a glimpse. Every time you see that full moon, give our Mom a smile.

She loved photography and we will have many pictures to enjoy in the years to come (many of the moon, LOL). One of our favorite things about Mom was how much she’d loved when other selflessly helped out someone in need. She would tear up with happiness. And in her memory, do something nice for someone else. Mom, we love you more. Thank you Dad for all the care and love you have given Mom. You are the strongest person we know.

Jan is survived by her husband Dave; children: Kelly (Gunnar) Renner and Kari (Matt) Hartwig; grandchildren: August Renner; Silas & Alice Hartwig; Mother Irene (Nee Sudbrink); siblings: Sharon (Kent) Anderson, Robert (Kelly) Jordan and Jerome (Carol) Jordan. Further survived by other relatives and many friends. Jan was preceded in death by her father Robert J. Jordan. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 – 4:00 PM at Mueller Funeral Home in Grafton. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM – 3:45 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Mel’s Pig Roast appreciated.
