Obit: John W. Mittelstaedt, 88, Hartford

 

John W. Mittelstaedt, age 88 of Hartford, Wisconsin passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Community Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side.

John was born on December 24, 1928 in Milwaukee, WI to Walter P. and Gretchen (nee Behrens) Mittelstaedt. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  John graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was united in marriage to Leona M. Posselt on October 6, 1956 in Milwaukee, WI.  John enjoyed gardening, sailing, cross country skiing, and was a huge Green Bay Packer fan.  He was a jazz musician who also enjoyed playing the clarinet and saxophone since college. He will be remembered dearly for his love of the outdoors and his unique style and personality, and will be greatly missed.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Leona Mittelstaedt; his loving sons, Cort and Andy Mittelstaedt, both of Pittsburgh, PA; and his cherished grandson, Alexander Mittelstaedt of Florida; and dear brother-in-law, Alan and his wife, Patricia Posselt of Bayview, WI. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews, other loved relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, and siblings-in-law.

Memorial funeral services for John will be held Monday, March 21, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home (824 Union Street Hartford, WI 53027.) Family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00a.m.-1:00p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105) or to the University of Wisconsin-Madison Foundation (1848 University Avenue Madison, WI 53726-4090), and are greatly appreciated.

The Mittelstaedt Family would like to share their sincere gratitude to the nursing and medical staff at St. Joseph’s Cancer Center in West Bend, Community Memorial Hospice and the Horizon Hospice nursing staff for the wonderful concern and care John received and the loving support shown to our family.
