Obit: Loren D. Nonhof

Loren D. Nonhof, 83, passed away at St. Luke’s Medical Center on December 12, 2015.  On September 14, 1957, he was united in marriage to Marie P. Buschena at St. John’s Lutheran Church in West Bend.

He was born to Henry and Tracy (nee Drent) in Long Island, Kansas on March 2, 1932.  He moved to Wisconsin with his family when he was ten years old.  He graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1950.  After graduation, he taught accordion lessons in West Bend for several years and was a drummer in a polka band in the 1950’s.  He worked at Gehl Company from 1960 until retirement in 1992.  While employed at Gehl Co., he started his own part-time custom wood working business and continued that business full-time after his retirement until 2008.  Loren also worked at Eddy’s Mobil and Joe Matenaer Tool & Die each for 13 years.

Loren was a faith-filled, generous, and honest man with impeccable integrity and character.  He would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need.  He was an active member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where he sang in the folk choir, attended Men’s Bible Study at Omicron Restaurant for many years, and did the Stephen Ministry for about five years.  Loren enjoyed polka dancing and attended many festivals in WI, MN, IL and IA where he and his wife met many special friends.  Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Loren is survived by his wife of 58 years Marie; children Deb (Bob) Nigh, Denise (Bob) Pierron and Duane (Shiela) Nonhof; grandchildren: Eric and Blake Nigh, Nic and Zac Pierron; Emmanuel and Dominic Nonhof; brothers: Darrel (Judy) Nonhof and Ed (Cindy) Nonhof; sister Gloria (Harold) Park.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; in-laws Fred and Catherine Buschena; and brother Virgil (Delores) Nonhof.

The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 1:00 PM at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (809 S 6th Ave, West Bend, WI 53095) with Pastor Jeff Dorth and Pastor David Kellerman officiating.  The Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, December 17th from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM.  Entombment will take place at Washington County Memorial Park. Memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church are appreciated.
