Obit: Myrtle Shulka (nee Droes), 99, of West Bend

 

July 19, 2018 – West Bend, WI – Myrtle Shulka (nee Droes), 99, of West Bend, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at The Waterford of West Bend.

She was born on June 4, 1919 in Shawmut, MT, the daughter of the late Frederick William and Alma (nee Luehrsen) Droes. She was united in marriage to Emil L. Shulka in Reedsburg on December 23, 1937. Myrtle drove logging trucks for her husband’s business and did the bookkeeping, and cooked and operated a restaurant.

Mrs. Shulka was a member of the Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church in West Bend. She enjoyed traveling and going to the casino. She also loved her dogs and cats very much.

Those Myrtle leaves behind to cherish her memory include her daughter, Betty Clement of West Bend; 9 grandchildren, Jim (Janet) Shulka, Helen Westphal, Roger Shulka, Linda (Robert) White, Mona Shulka, Douglas (Dena) Schuetz, Pamela (Sam Hoffmann) Kaye, Daniel (Wendy) Schuetz, Paula (Tom) Parker; 22 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren; special friends, Barbara DeLuka, Sonny, Judy and Renee Dahman, Jerome Schuetz, and Brother Isidore Herriges; other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Emil; sons, William, Paul, and Lawrence; a sister, Aurella (Ray) Struck; two brothers, Lorenz Droes and Amos (Doris) Droes; a granddaughter Roberta Shulka; and a son-in-law, Roger Clement; two sisters-in-law, Burgess Droes and Ruth Droes, and other relatives.

Funeral service in Celebration of Myrtle will be held on Monday, July 23 at 7:00 p.m. at the Myrhum Patten Miller & Kietzer Funeral Home, 1315 W. Washington St., West Bend, with Rev. Clarissa Martinella officiating.

Family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be on Tuesday, July 24 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Reedsburg.

The family would like to extend a special thanks for the care and comfort provided to Myrtle these past few years by the staff at The Waterford of West Bend, the Heartland Hospice nurses, Pastor Clarissa Martinelli, Rev. Amy Anderson, and all the prayers and support from friends and family.
