Obit: Rita Ann Meyer (nee Martiny), 89, of Appleton formerly of West Bend

Rita A. Meyer, nee Martiny
Oct. 18, 2017 – West Bend, WI – Rita Ann Meyer (nee Martiny) of Appleton, formerly of West Bend, died on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Heritage Woods in Appleton at the age of 89 years.  She was born on June 10, 1928 in West Bend to the late Richard and Leona (nee Lickman) Martiny.  On June 28, 1952, she married Alfred John Meyer at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years Alfred; two children: Kathleen A. (Gary) Now of Hortonville and Richard (Corinne) of West Bend; four grandchildren: Stephen and David Now and Samantha Fuentebella and Krysta Meyer.  She is further survived by one brother Richard (Shirley) Martiny of Manchester, TN, other relatives and friends.

Following her graduation from West Bend High School with the Class of 1946, Rita was employed at Enger Kress Company for eight years as an executive assistant.  She later worked at West Bend Company as a paralegal from 1970 until 1990.  During this time, she also assisted her husband in his business, Meyer Trailer Sales, for more than 20 years.

Rita had a love for traveling, cooking, gardening, crocheting, fishing and spending time at their cottage.  Most of all, she enjoyed being a homemaker and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Rita was a member of Holy Angels Parish, the Mission Circle, the Good Samaritan Guild and The Apostolate of Suffering.  She made afghans, lap blankets, baby blankets and dish cloths for family members, missions, community outreaches and as donations to local nursing homes where she also spent time leading the rosary with residents.

The family will greet relatives and friends during a period of visitation at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 138 N. 8th Avenue, West Bend, on Saturday, October 21 from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the church with burial in the parish cemetery.

The Schmidt Funeral Home of West Bend is serving the family.
