Obit: Roger E. Kaufman, 88, Byron

Roger E. Kaufman, 88, of Byron, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

Roger was born on December 26, 1927, in Mattoon, the son of the late Edward and Nellie (Ringstad) Kaufman. On July 15, 1950, he was united in marriage to Betty Liesch at Waubeka Community Church in Waubeka. Betty preceded Roger in death on May 13, 1997. Roger and Kathy Auchue became loving companions and shared many wonderful memories together including traveling and enjoying family celebrations.

Roger was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brownsville. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948. After the Navy, Roger went on to pursue his teaching degree at UW Oshkosh. Roger shared his wisdom and love of learning in U.S. History and English as a high school teacher in the Lomira School District. He took pride in remembering all of the names of his former students who also remember Roger as being a great mentor.

Those Roger leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving companion, Kathy; “his three girls”, Kristine (Karl) Mittelstadt, Kara (Tim) Gessner and Kim (Josh) Guell, along with, Kirk Auchue, Kevin (Michelle) Auchue, and Jereme Auchue; 14 “grandchildren”, Chase, Kailey, Isabella, Cassie, Liberty, Jackson, Brandon, Claire, Nicholas, Emmitt, Ivy, Evelyn, Wyatt, and Ryder; a brother, Peter (Carli) Kaufman, Antigo Wi and a sister Phyllis Meidl, Columbus Ohio and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Roger was preceded in death by his brother Mervil (Minnie) Kaufman, and sisters Merna (Art) Carlson, Nadine (Lawrence) Buck, Marjorie (Wallace) Wolff, Carol (Melvin) Discher, Patricia (LeRoy) Carlson and brother-in-law Gary Meidl.

A funeral service for Roger will be held at Noon on Thursday, August 4, 2016, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brownsville. Rev. William Carter will officiate and entombment will follow in Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in Fond du Lac.

Roger’s family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

The family extends their deepest appreciation to Agnesian Hospice Hope for the care provided to Roger.
