Obituary | Daniel A. Odermann, 70, of West Bend

Dec. 5, 2018 – West Bend, WI – Daniel A. Odermann, 70, of West Bend, went to eternal life to be with the Lord on Dec. 3, 2018, peacefully and surrounded by family.

Dan was born in North Dakota to Edwin and Dolores Odermann. The family moved to Wisconsin when he was 2. Dan attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from West Bend High School. As a youth, he spent much of his time working on his Uncle Timmer’s farm.  Dan loved tractors, country life, hard work and became a very strong man.

Dan served his country in the US Army Company B, 4th Battalion, 9th Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He fought in the Vietnam War, where he received two Purple Hearts, and a Bronze Star with V Device for his heroic actions. Dan spent a year in the hospital in Japan recovering from his war wounds before returning home. After serving he worked as a tree trimmer, and then as a carpenter. Dan found a career with Hunzinger Construction starting as laborer, then foreman, and then became a superintendent. Dan enjoyed a 10 year retirement after 36 years with the company.

Dan is survived by the devoted love of his life, his wife Missy, his beloved son Dan (Kristina), his adored grandkids, Lexi, Josie, and Laney, wonderful siblings Joe (Diana), Linda Deppert (Don), Carol Extence (Clive), Mary Rick (Al), Patty Rick (Bob), sister in-law Michele Schumacher (Ed) of Colorado, his aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces, many friends, and his four pawed companions, Apachi, Koda, Quigli, and Pawni.

Dan his predeceased by his parents, Ed and Dolores, grandma and grandpa Timmer, Uncle Marvin and Jim Timmer, in-laws Roy and Louise Meno, and brother in-law Myles.

Dan will be greatly missed until we meet again in heaven.  Dan enjoyed many wonderful memories, boating on Big Cedar Lake, heading to the cabin up north that he built, kicking back after starting a campfire, hunting, fishing, road trips, visits to Colorado, and golfing with his Harley friends. Dan loved the close relationship with his beloved son, Danny.  He also loved his adored grandkids; babysitting, driving them to school, taking them for ice cream trips to Scoop DeVille, and helping them with the horse and pigs.  Dan enjoyed working on cars and trucks with his son.  He had great patience to think out the answer to any problem, and come up with an ingenious fix. Dan will always be remembered as someone who gave 100% with everything he did, along with his great patience.

Memorials appreciated to Samaritan’s Purse ( PO Box 3000 Boone NC 28607-3000, earmarked the Wounded Warrior Project).

A special thank you to Pastor Troy Loether of Kettlebrook church, Dr. David J. Schimp, nurses at St. Joe’s, Debbie and nurses at Kathy Hospice, the many that prayed for Dan, and most of all our lord and savior, Jesus Christ who sustained us through this journey.
