Observing Memorial Day in Allenton, Hartford, Slinger | By Rusty Mehlberg

May 28, 2017 – Hartford, WI – Neighbors across Washington and neighboring Dodge, Fond du Lac, and Ozaukee Counties will take time Monday to observe Memorial Day, remembering those men and women who gave their lives while serving in one of the United States’ armed forces.

For Hartford and Slinger, the highlight of observances will be parades that get underway at 10 a.m.

Hartford’s parade will begin at the intersection of High Street and Main Street, work its way south on Main until it reaches Sawyer Park, where a memorial service will take place.

Prior to the parade, the city will have rifle salutes at the city’s cemeteries at 6 a.m., a naval memorial service at 9 a.m. at the City Hall Bridge, and a rifle salute and wreath laying at the city’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial at 9:15 a.m.

 

In Slinger the parade begins at the Zunker-Held VFW Post Hall in the downtown area, continue north along Highway 144 until it reaches Union Cemetery, where a ceremony will be held.

 

In case of rain the parade will be cancelled and the ceremony will be moved to the Slinger High School Main Gym.
