Riding in tribute to Pat Bohn – Amazing Ride for Alzheimer’s leaves June 21

Tribute Pat Bohn

The 2016 Amazing Ride for Alzheimer’s leaves June 21 and this year I have the honor to ride each day in tribute to people in and around West Bend, Washington County and neighboring communities.

This week Lee and Sandy Stehling from A-1 Canvas in West Bend made a generous donation and asked that I ride a day in tribute to Pat Bohn.
Pat owns Bits ‘n Pieces Floral with his wife Deb.

Last year Pat revealed in a video on WashingtonCountyInsider he had Alzheimer’s.

While Pat’s diagnosis isn’t what anyone wants to hear, he and Deb have wrapped their arms around the disease and stepped up their activity in the community – bringing fundraisers to the forefront and talking openly about their daily challenges and rewards.

The Amazing Ride for Alzheimer’s is a solo bicycle tour that raised money and awareness for Alzheimer’s.

I’ve been riding bike since I can remember.

Each year I’ve taken a tour on my bike riding from West Bend to Colorado to visit my sister or flying to Seattle, running the Rock n’ Roll Marathon and then pedaling home.

For the past four year I’ve used my passion for bicycling and tied it in with a fundraiser to bring awareness to Alzheimer’s and the power music and exercise have on people dealing with memory issues.

The first year I pedaled in Alaska, then I pedaled from Nova Scotia to West Bend, last year I was in Italy and this year I’m flying to New Mexico, putting my bike together and pedaling home.

Earlier this year the Amazing Ride for Alzheimer’s took home a national award at the Great Minds Gala in Washington D.C.

I was presented with the Exceptional Friend or Family Caregiver Award for my bicycling tours to raise money and awareness for memory-care activities at Cedar Community.
