May 28, 2019 – West Bend, WI – The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Wisconsin held a final leg event in West Bend today.

Special Olympics Torch Run at Regner Park

The event kicked off at 5 p.m. at the Regner Park pavilion.

The course was 1.5 miles and looped around the park.  Today’s final leg was in honor of Dale Brunner, 67, of Jackson who passed away August 12, 2014 after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Brunner was the first Director of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. He has played a leadership role and “carried the flame of hope” on a local, national and international level. The Torch Run Hall of Fame Award was established in Dale’s honor in 1999. Dale was also selected as the recipient of the International Torch Run Hall of Fame Award by Sargent Shriver and Eunice Kennedy Shriver.

 

 

 

 

 

The mission of the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics Wisconsin was to raise funds and awareness of Special Olympics.

Law enforcement on hand included the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, West Bend Police, Germantown Police, Hartford Police, Big Cedar Lake PRD, and Kewaskum Police.

LETR participates in events for Special Olympics year round.

On June 7-9, hundreds of law enforcement officers from around the state will participate in the 33rd Annual Final Leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run to carry the Flame of Hope to the State Summer Games in Stevens Point.
