Statewide Issuance of Vital Records By Washington Co. Register of Deeds Sharon Martin

Dec. 23, 2016  West Bend, WI – December 20, 2016. Sharon Martin, Washington County Register of Deeds would like to announce that statewide issuance of vital records becomes effective January 3, 2017. The new process will allow register of deeds offices to issue certified copies of birth, death, marriage, and divorce records from all Wisconsin counties, if the records are enabled in the Statewide Vital Records Information System.

Martin adds not all vital records will be eligible for statewide issuance; some small numbers of special service records are excluded. For those records that are eligible, not all may be in the system and available on January 3, 2017.

The State Vital Records Office has been working with the register of deeds offices to develop a process for
loading specific vital records on demand until all historic records are converted.

“The new process will allow citizens who were born anywhere in Wisconsin to come to West Bend and purchase a certified copy from our office. The process may take 10-15 minutes for the state to load the record into the database but if you are willing to wait, you will leave with your certificate. Another option is to fill out the application and we
can mail it to you.”

See www.co.washington.wi.us/REG for applications.

Martin also explained that Statewide issuance will aid in providing an easier and more efficient method for serving our customers, as well as provide better access to Wisconsin vital records. She thanks the public for their support and patience as their office works through the implementation of this new service.
