Successful rummage sale by Slinger Student Council

Capturebbbbbbb

This past weekend, Slinger High School hosted its first-ever rummage sale.  The rummage sale was organized by Student Council as a fundraiser for school and Student Council events.  A lot of work went into the preparations for the fundraiser.

Student Council members volunteered at the four drop-off dates, created yard signs, and brought items up from the autoshop storage on the Friday before the sale.

Amy Keliher, Slinger’s Student Council advisor, and the Student Council members worked tirelessly to make this project the best it could be; they worked 12 hours on Friday, 12 hours on Saturday, and a few hours on Sunday.

Mrs. Keliher would also like to thank the Slinger High School staff members and parent who helped with the rummage sale — Mrs. Reichle, Mrs. Michalski, Mrs. Beine, and Mrs. Schaub.

Student Council had two specific goals for its fundraiser: 1.) collect at least $1,000 and 2.) price items at very low costs so the Slinger community is served by providing very affordable things.

The rummage sale met both of these goals easily.  Students collected over $2,300.  This is incredible, considering most items were sold for only 25 cents or 50 cents; the most expensive items (furniture) cost at most $5.

“That shows how many customers we had at our sale,” said Mrs. Keliher.  “Almost everyone commented on how low our prices were and how thankful they were. It’s not always about making money; it’s about doing good for others.”

The proceeds earned will go towards various events, including a free citizen dinner, Santa Sitters expenses, pep rallies and dance supplies, free giveaways to students, leadership training, and a new bench by the high school gym concession stand.

The sale’s leftover items were donated to two nonprofit groups, Operation Christmas Child and a Boy Scout troop in West Bend.  “It’s a win-win situation for many, many people,” explained Mrs. Keliher.

Congratulations to the Slinger High School Student Council on their successful rummage sale!  Whether the Student Council decides that this rummage sale should be an annual event or not, the Slinger community will greatly anticipate the next Student Council rummage sale.
