Toddler saved at Hartford Aquatic Center

Staff and Bystanders credited for save

At 3:09 p.m. on Monday, July 25, a 2-year-old toddler was rescued at the Hartford Veteran’s Memorial Aquatic Center thanks to the quick action of trained staff and professional medically-trained bystanders.

The toddler was seen floundering in 2 feet of water by a lifeguard on duty when she instantly responded to his aid.

Simultaneously, swimmers around the youth saw this child and assisted the lifeguard in getting him to the deck.

In less than a minute, CPR was started by a professional nurse who happened to be on deck with assistance from the guard staff. At this time the child was found with no pulse, not breathing and unresponsive.

Within four minutes, the CPR conducted was successful in reestablishing a pulse, getting the child to breath on his own and being responsive.

By this time, Hartford Emergency personnel were on hand to assist in monitoring the child and then would transport him to the local hospital and then transferring him to Children’s Hospital for further review.
