Town of Kewaskum fire update from Washington County Sheriff

Oct. 19, 2017 – Town of Kewaskum, WI – On the above date at 12:09 p.m. the Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a report the house located at 8975 Highland Dr. in the Town of Kewaskum was on fire.

The caller reported smoke and flames coming from the house.

The Kewaskum Fire Department was paged and the call was upgraded to a MABAS call.

Fire Departments from West Bend, Allenton, Kohlsville, Jackson, Boltonville, Fillmore, St. Lawrence, Slinger, Newburg and Campbellsport responded to assist.

The investigation revealed there was work on the roof being done by a contractor who had previously been grinding some flashing which produced some sparks. The contractor left and one of his workers (the caller) stayed behind. A while later the smoke and flames were observed in the area where the work was being done.

Traffic on Highland Drive was shut down to allow for Fire Departments to work. The house was not occupied at the time of the fire and there were no reported injuries associated with the fire.

The fire was reported to be extinguished at 1:52 p.m. The house sustained significant damage, but there is no estimate at this time. It is likely the house will be a total loss.
