July 28, 2019 – West Bend, WI – A couple of early risers took advantage of the cool morning temps on Sunday to finish their project for the third annual Art & Chalk Fest at the Museum of Wisconsin Art.

Artist Elizabeth Niemczyk of Chicago arrived just after 6 a.m. Sunday.  “It’s a lot calmer in the morning and I get to work out all of the problems that were too frustrating to work out the night before,” she said.

Niemczyk is chalking an original adaptation by Svetlana Petrova and Zarathustra the Cat.

Artists arriving early pulled back the protective plastic which covered the chalk art overnight. Heavy dew and precipitation from scattered showers rolled off the edge of tarps and onto the pavement.

Some of the other chalk art features a tribute to MOWA’s current show Among the Wonders of The Dells.

Come explore the artist booths, create artwork of your own, listen to live music, view exhibitions inside the museum, and much, much more from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Art & Chalk Fest takes place at the Museum of Wisconsin Art (MOWA) in West Bend. Festival and museum admission is free for the duration of the weekend. There is free parking near the museum in public lots to the south and along downtown streets. Veterans Avenue will be closed for the festival Sunday, July 28, 2019. Click on the map above for additional parking information.

Be sure to attend each day of the festival to experience the chalk art performative process, shop from 60+ fine artist booths, and get a taste of the art activities, food, music, and museum exhibitions.
