The bill would also require the Department of Transportation to erect and maintain directional signs in the area for the Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial Education Center in Kewaskum.

The bill would also require DOT to identify the 9/11 Memorial Highway and Memorial and Education Center on future editions of state highway maps.

After the vote, Stroebel made the following statement:

“I am thankful the 9/11 Memorial Highway Bill has unanimous support on the Senate Floor earlier today. Honoring and remembering the victims of 9/11 is crucial and I am glad Senators of both parties recognize the importance of this Memorial Highway.

“I am also proud of the work of the dedicated Wisconsinites that have worked for years to establish the Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial and Education Center in Kewaskum.  This site will help educate future generations about the events of 9/11 for years to come.”

Below is testimony from Gordon Haberman and his daughter before committee at the Capitol in Madison. The Habermans are an integral part of the 9/11 Memorial in Kewaskum and they testified, in part, with regard to the importance of the 9/11 Memorial Highway.

The vote today was a voice vote in the state Senate. The next step is Thursday, October 10, the measure will go before the State Assembly. A roll-call vote will likely be requested during that session.

Once the measure is signed by the leadership of both bodies it will be called for by the Governor.
Gov. Tony Evers is scheduled to sign the bill on the 9/11 Memorial Highway in Kewaskum at noon on Thursday, October 31.
