July 29, 2018 – West Bend, WI – Day 2 of the Art & Chalk Fest at the Museum of Wisconsin Art is getting underway at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 29.

Some artists like Elizabeth Niemczyk from Chicago are getting an early start to the day. Niemczyk has been chalking since Friday evening; her deadline is Sunday at 4 p.m.  “I’ve had to be here early but that’s OK because it’s a lot calmer and I get to work out all of the problems that were too frustrating to work out the night before,” she said.

Niemczyk is chalking an oil on canvas painting by Sir Thomas Lawrence. It’s titled ‘Nature.’

The girls in the painting are Emily and Laura Anne, they were the children of Charles Calmady of Langdon Court in Devonshire.

Their portrait is at the Royal Academy in London.

Niemczyk is one of 17 live chalk artists during this amazing festival at the Museum of Wisconsin Art in West Bend.

“It’s wonderful MOWA is hosting a fine art event,” said Niemczyk.  “They have space for more people and chalk festivals are gaining in popularity and I encourage people to come out and draw.”

The final chalk masterpieces will be judged and awards handed out at 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Come and explore the artist booths, create artwork of your own, listen to live music, view exhibitions inside the museum, sample Lakefront Brewery brews, and much, much more anytime from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
