Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy Chad Beres is featured on the front page of Monday’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for his participation in Sunday’s Lakefront Marathon.  Beres ran the 26.2 miles in full uniform as a tribute to law enforcement who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Reporter Lori Nickel wrote, “On Sunday, Beres, a deputy sheriff for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, completed the Lakefront Marathon in 5 hours, 48 minutes, 22 seconds.

Beres, 41, is a distance running and cycling racer and triathlete. He and his wife got hooked eight years ago trying the mini triathlon with the YMCA in West Bend.

He became active in C.O.P.S. because of the numerous outreach programs, from educational to ceremonial, that vary from kids camps for children of fallen officers to emotional support for grieving families.

“It’s motivating for me because these are officers that gave their lives doing the same job that I do,” said Beres. “We all do this job to protect and serve. The way I’m looking at it, I’m giving back and honoring the sacrifice of these officers. Also, if that ever happens to me, I know this organization is there to help my family.”
