Washington County Deputies use Narcan to revive woman overdosing on heroin

Sept. 20, 2017 – Richfield, WI – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a restaurant in the Village of Richfield last evening at 11:24 p.m. for a report of a 26-year-old Westfield woman that had collapsed after overdosing on heroin. Her associate, a 27-year-old Wautoma man, retrieved a heroin kit from the vehicle in order to administer Narcan as the business called 911.

Deputies, and a Wisconsin State Trooper, arrived as bystanders began CPR. The deputy administered another round of Narcan as he noted the classic respiratory distress associated with a heroin overdose. Shortly thereafter a pulse is obtained and the patient began to regain consciousness.

During the subsequent investigation the heroin kit was located hidden in an adjacent room. Initially there were conflicting statements about who owned the kit, which contained heroin and paraphernalia. Eventually the 27-year-old man was taken to jail for a probation hold and the woman was transported to a local hospital.

The woman was medically cleared and arrested. She remains in custody at the Washington County Jail on heroin possession and paraphernalia charges.
