There was recognition Monday evening during the West Bend common council meeting for Peace Officers in the community including Officer Nick Wenzel.

On July 4, 2015, West Bend police officers were involved in a high speed pursuit involving an unregistered motorcycle being ridden by an unknown driver.

After several attempts to stop the motorcycle, the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns for the public.

Police Officer Nick Wenzel believed strongly in the need to hold the driver accountable and continued to investigate the incident.

On December 8, 2015, five months after the pursuit, while reviewing social media while off duty, Officer Wenzel located a social media post of a subject bragging about fleeing the police.

Officer Wenzel returned to duty and conducted additional investigation and learned the post’s author owned the model of motorcycle which had fled from the officers and had posted an incriminating entry shortly after the initial chase.

West Bend Police Detectives located the suspect in Sussex, WI and obtained a confession. Police Officer Wenzel’s tenacity and dedication to justice allowed a suspect to be held accountable and made the streets safer for the public.
