West Bend Bombers defeat DePere Deacons to win season series By Steven Pfaff

Jan. 29, 2017 – West Bend, WI  – The West Bend Bombers bounced back on their two game road trip last weekend defeating DePere and Marquette. West Bend was looking to lock down its defensive zone after allowing 18 goals in two games last weekend.

 

Bomber forward Tanner Tryggestad notched his 100th career point (51 goals 49 assists) in Marquette last weekend recording a goal and an assist en route to a 7-4 West Bend Victory. Goaltender Billy Sias went 2-0 allowing 6 goals and recording a .913% save percentage.

 

West Bend (11-3-0) hosted DePere (2-10-1) on Saturday night at the KMIC en route to a 7-3 victory. West Bend is now (18-9-0) against DePere all-time. West Bend has now taken three out of four games against DePere this season locking in a season-series victory.

 

Scott Holtz recorded his 400th career point on an assist to Marshall Klitzke who blasted from the point in the 2nd period. Holtz has 22 points in 14 games this season (7 goals and 15 assists). This has been a season of milestones for the Bomber captain who also played in his 200th career Great Lakes Hockey League game earlier this season. Holtz has 182 goals and 218 assists in 213 career regular season games averaging 1.88 points per game over his career. This does not include Holtz’s Exhibition stats and 16 playoff points.

 

West Bend was highlighted by a 5-point performance from Forward Russell Johnson, who had 3 goals and 2 assists. Shay Klitzke also tallied 4 points for West Bend.

 

The forward line of Klitzke, Johnson, and Tryggestad (who achieved his 100th career point in Marquette last weekend) combined for four of West Bend’s goals for a total of 11 points.

 

Goaltender Eric Everson made his second start of the season in for West Bend in which he stopped 21 out of 24 shots. He improved his record to (2-0) West Bend’s penalty kill struggled to contain DePere on the man advantage allowing two power play goals in three opportunities.

 

Only five total penalties were assessed between the two teams, four of them coming from West Bend. West Bend out shot DePere 52 to 24 giving DePere goaltender Zach Turney plenty of action. He stopped 45 of 52 shots.
