West Bend East wrestling takes 1st Place at North Fond du Lac Invitational | By Denny Ziegler

 

Jan. 14, 2018 – West Bend, WI – The West Bend East Wrestling team competed at the 2nd annual David Cohen Classic at North Fond du Lac on Saturday and came away with its second team tournament championship of the season.

The Suns scored a total of 184.5 points on the day outpacing Marshall who had 154.5 points and 11 other schools.

The Suns only entered 10 of the 14 weight classes but every East wrestler placed in the top three of the tournament.

The Suns were lead by Sophomore Dan Ciriacks at 120, Sophomore Cayden Henschel at 126 and Junior 160 pounder Cooper Schlosser who all won tournament championships. Placing second on the day was Freshman Jordan Ward at 113, Sophomore Damian Zapata at 138, Senior Bryce Henschel at 152 and Senior Kyle Yochem at 170. Placing 3rd was Freshman Cael Pionkowski at 106, Freshman Crosby Schlosser at 132 and Junior Nathan Brockman at 195.

Individually, the Suns were 37-9 on the day. Sun Sophomore 126 pounder Cayden Henschel was also voted the tournament’s outstanding wrestler. Cayden had 2 pins and 3 technical falls on the day and had 41 takedowns.

The JV squad also had a successful day at Sheboygan Falls. Every wrestler placed in the top three in that event as well. The Suns were lead by Freshman Darrin Parve at 106 and Freshman Brady Schmidt at 160 who won tournament championships. Placing 3rd was Freshman Aden Orth at 145, Sophomore Evan Smith at 195 and Freshman Jake LaVanway at 285.

The Suns compete Friday, Jan. 19  at home in a dual with 5th in state ranked Slinger to decide the North Shore Western Division Championship. JV starts at 6 p.m. and Varsity at 7 p.m.
