Nov. 13, 2017 – Hartford, WI – Daniel Bartelt, the young man convicted of murdering Jessie Blodgett in her bedroom in Hartford in 2013, will be facing the Wisconsin Supreme Court tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 14.

Bartelt was sentenced to life in prison in 2014 and last year, he appealed to the appellate court to lift his conviction.

Bartelt is claiming his Miranda rights were not properly followed the day he voluntarily talked with law enforcement about Jessie Blodgett’s murder.

Because the appellate court did not rule in his favor, he is taking that appeal to the Wisconsin Supreme Court for an oral argument.

At an oral argument, each side has 30 minutes to make their argument using the written record of the trial. No witnesses are called and no new evidence will be shared.

The Supreme Court will not issue their decision immediately, as it may take several months until a decision is released.

While this may be the last step Bartelt can take in pursing this specific appeal, Bartelt is allowed to appeal his conviction for other reasons, if he so chooses.

Buck Blodgett

Buck Blodgett, Jessie’s father, issued this statement regarding the appeal. “I trust our State Supreme Court, I honor the process that ensures fair treatment of everyone in our country and I pray for Dan, wishing him light and truth and inner freedom from his inner prison.”

The Supreme Court oral argument will be broadcast live at 9:45 a.m. on Nov. 14. You can listen by clicking HERE.

The appeal number is: 2015AP002506
