$5,000 in prizes awarded at Biennial at MOWA

It was quite the show at the Museum of Wisconsin Art over the weekend as over 650 artists competed for $5,000 in prizes at the 2016 Wisconsin Artist Biennial.

Best in Show was S.V. Medaris of Mount Horeb and her woodcut on paper Hog Butcher for the World.

First Place went to Tom Berenz of Milwaukee for his oil, acrylic and enamel on canvas To the West. IMG_0137

Second Place was Meg Mitchell of Madison and her book Rain/fall.

 

 

 

 

 

Third Place went to artist Bethann Moran of Fort Atkinson and her oil on panel Community Garden, New Years Eve.

Honorable mentions were awarded to Jacob Pfeiffer of Madison and his oil on panel Shadow Box, Ben Tyjeski of Milwaukee and his ceramic Vase a Koch d’Elephant, Barbara Ciurej and Lindsay Lochman of Milwaukee and the color photo Fruit Loops Landscape from the series, Processed Views, and Jerilynn Bush of Sheboygan and her textile titled Morning. There were three jurors that judged the Biennial. Peter Olson, assistant director of the Northern Illinois University Art Museum, Tammie Rubin, assistant professor of sculpture and ceramics at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, and Graeme Reid, MOWA’s director of collections and exhibitions.

The Biennial will remain on display through March 27.
