Day 7✔ 26.4 miles down for a total of 195 miles

Well today was not my day. The morning started out amazing. The sun rise was great, my husband’s uncle Al got up early to run a mile with me, my husband and brother. Then I hit mile 6 the other shoe dropped. My left calf said you need to stop RIGHT NOW.

So I walked to where Peter was waiting to crew me. He knew right away something wasn’t right. I took a bit longer by the jeep to get it to loosen up but nothing was helping. So I decided I was going to walk a bit and stretch it out, that didn’t seem to help. I put on my calf sleeve and changed shoes to see if that would help, it did but not enough to run, so I speed walked. I told Peter I want to get in 20 miles today. Not 26 but it was 20.

I received a text from Ashley checking in on me to make sure my calf was okay. In our text exchanges she texted me…how a person with MS everything can be going so well, then all the sudden a symptom pops up and they’re sidelined by no fault of their own. This made me reevaluate my situation and reflect on my reasons for running 204 miles.

This journey isn’t about me it is about my mother-in-law Betty, my cousin Kelly and all of those living with MS on a daily basis. My calf will eventually not hurt but they will always suffer with symptoms that will sideline them. Their pain doesn’t stay away.

When I met Peter at the next stop I told him I was going to do the full 26 miles. That was the mileage I’m supposed to cover, that was what I was going to cover. He looked at me and said OK I’ll do whatever you want.

So for the next 18 miles I walked and continued to reflect on my why. Today was tough but I made the 26 miles. Peter was amazing and always knew exactly what I needed at each stop
He never made me stop he walked along side to exchange water bladders and hand me food. My husband and brother Thaddeus were definitely troopers with all the walking…they did do some off-road desert trails.

After 6.5 hours of grinding it out I completed my mileage, then went to the RV to soak in an ice bath and relax.

Monday, April 22 is the big finish. I am humbled and excited I will have so much family there with me.
