Does your exit plan have a way to alert everyone? | By Ron Naab

Oct. 13, 2017 – Allenton, WI – Today’s safety hint from the Allenton Volunteer Fire Department and St. Lawrence Fire Company observing Fire Prevention Week-2017 is to make sure your plan includes a way to wake everyone of an alarm.
According to National Fire Protection Agency—“Every home fire escape plan is different, and every family should know who will – and who won’t – awaken at the sound of the smoke alarm. If someone doesn’t wake up when the alarm sounds during a drill, the family should design an escape plan that assigns a grown-up who is easily awakened by the alarm to wake the sleepers, perhaps by yelling “FIRE,” pounding on the wall or door, or blowing a whistle.”
This year’s emphasis is on Every Second Counts—Plan 2 Ways Out, includes having working smoke/heat detectors in every home and on every floor.
As part of this project the Allenton Fire Department Fire Queen Olivia Kreft is hosting “Beauties for Batteries.”
With this project, Olivia is collecting 9 volt DC batteries on Sunday during the Open House and Pancake Breakfast at the Allenton Fire Station from 8 a.m. to 12 Noon. The batteries donated will be distributed to needy and elderly families that may not be able to afford batteries for their smoke detectors and CO monitors.
Deputy Chief Mark Steger said, “We urge everyone coming to bring at least one 9 Volt DC battery on Sunday so Olivia can meet her goal of collecting 500 to help our seniors and needy families.”
Advance sale tickets [$5 each], which includes a coupon for a FREE 6” sub sandwich at the Allenton Subway, are available for purchase at Romie’s BP, Zuern Building Products, or Farmers Feed in Grain in Allenton or St. Lawrence Garage in St. Lawrence along with any Allenton Firefighter.
In addition to Pancakes and many interactive activities for all ages, Sheboygan County Pink Heals Fire Truck and a replica of Squad 51
from the TV Show, EMERGENCY will be on display during the hours of 8 a.m. to Noon on Sunday at the Allenton Fire Station.
