Erin Wilk running in February primary for Hartford Dist. 1 Alderman | By Samantha Sali

Feb. 16, 2019 – Hartford, WI – Hartford neighbor, Erin Wilk, is one of three candidates running for District 1 alderman on the Hartford Common Council.

“Ultimately, I am looking forward to connecting organizations and the city together, being a voice for the people who are passionate about Hartford, and advocating for these amazing organizations,” said Wilk. “More cohesive and efficient work would be beneficial for everyone!”

Currently working in the marketing field, Wilk was raised in Hartford, an alumna of Hartford Union High School and Bradley University in Peoria, IL. A mother of two girls, one in third grade and one in 4k, Wilk volunteers her free time to organizations in Hartford. Wilk is a member of the Hartford Rotary Club, a member of The Mill, board member on the Pink Pumpkin Run, and the Chairperson of the Hartford Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors group.

“I continue to invest my time in projects and groups I see as valuable and worthwhile and that I believe are aiming to improve some aspect of our community,” Wilk said. “I have been able to see how many of these groups are working for positive change in Hartford and I believe bringing this perspective to the City Council would be very beneficial in helping create the change many of our community members are desiring for our great city.”

Wilk believes what sets her apart from the other candidates is her ability to listen to those with different ideas and try to find common ground.
Wilk does not have any political experience, but feels her leadership experience and close ties to Hartford will make up for it.

When asked what she believed was the most significant issue facing the city, Wilk believes Hartford should be focused on bringing employees to local businesses.

“There is already communication happening between HADC and city officials, which is a good thing. Beyond helping them in recruitment, the city could help big and small businesses by branding the city a bit more so Hartford is more top-of-mind for people looking to visit and for people looking for work and a place to raise their family. As I do work in marketing, my mind tends to work in this way. Are we reaching the right people? Are we offering them what they want? Do they know about everything Hartford has to offer,” she said.

Dist. 1 incumbent alderman Joe Fulop and Todd Bultman are also running, the primary election will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019.

The spring election is April 2, 2019.
