First death in Washington County related to COVID-19 | By Valerie Grimm

March 30, 2020 – Washington Co., WI – A man in his 50s from Washington County has died from complications related to COVID-19. This is the first reported death related to COVID-19 in Washington County.

The Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department has reportedly indicated the victim is from Germantown.

The man, a Waukesha County employee, had underlying health conditions.  The Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department is diligently working to ensure the patient’s close contacts are monitored for symptoms and quarantined to avoid the spread of the virus.

A statement from the Washington Ozaukee Health Department is below.

“The health department sends our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. This is precisely why we are asking people to practice social distancing and to stay at home. If you have any symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, cough or tightness in your chest, please stay home and call your health care provider.  We do not want other families to lose loved ones,” said Kirsten Johnson, Health Officer of the Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department.

As of this morning, Washington County has 37 positive cases of COVID-19 and Ozaukee County has 40. There were an additional two deaths in Ozaukee County over the weekend.

The health department keeps a dashboard of cases and deaths at www.washozwi.gov, updated once daily.

As COVID-19 continues to spread throughout Wisconsin, the Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department urges everyone to take the CDC’s recommendations to practice social distancing seriously and heed Governor Evers’ Safer at Home Order. 1. While I agree this virus can be deadly this is being overblown. The models originally called for many more deaths. Now it looks like this will turn out to be only as bad as a normal flu outbreak. Let’s get back to work before we further ruin our economy!
